Create a Life Plan

Creating a Life Plan That Simply Works

Life today can get very hectic. With work, family and friends all demanding their respective shares of your time, it’s very easy to lose direction and wander off the path that you originally intended to take. If you feel that this description sounds like that of your own life, it might be time for you to step back and reevaluate your life plan.

How Can a Life Plan Help?

Realistically, we have a finite amount of time in our lifetime. Accepting that fact and working within those limitations can be liberating. You may be able to do whatever you want with your life, but you probably cannot do everything you want to do, certainly not at the same time. A life plan will help you address your desires and make decisions about prioritizing what is most important or desired. Your life can slip away from you without reaching any of your goals if you don’t prioritize them. Although this is called a life plan, you choose how far down the future you want to plan. However, the further ahead you plan, the more effective you can be now. Many worthwhile goals, such as buying a vacation home or getting your doctorate, may take a long time to realize. The sooner you start working towards those long term goals, the sooner that you can realize them. A life plan isn’t about nitpicking all those little things you don’t like about yourself. When you design your life plan, you identify general areas where you could use improvement and then gradually work on them. The general perspective also helps you see other areas aside from your personal life where a little growth may be needed; career goals are most often seen here.

Life Planning Process

So how do you make a life plan? While it’s entirely possible for you to create one on your own, it’s a better idea to get a life coach involved in the process. It may seem like an unwelcome intrusion, but that third party will help guide you to look at your life like you’ve never done before. Life coaching has the added benefit of helping you ask the right questions and find sensible answers. The Project-Transform life planning process starts with you imagining that you can have, experience, feel, or be anything that you want and then creating life goals. The next step is to define the activities needed to realize your goals. Your life coach will then help you refine your goals to ensure that they are achievable. The final step is to pull everything together into a life plan document to serve as a visible road map for achieving the life you want. Never forget to be realistic about your time line. Remember, you’ll still be working and doing your regular routine while carrying out that plan. Don’t worry if it looks like something looks like it’ll take months or even years; many life plans are like that. The important thing is for you to give yourself enough time to tackle each area one at a time
